Lorong Halus Wetland

Have you any idea where Lorong Halus Wetland is? Well, it is where the Serangoon River flows into the sea and where a dam has been built across it at the river mouth, where there is a nature park and a park connector, where there is also one of the few remnants of wilderless left in Singapore, where there is a colony of bee-eaters amongst other birds like doves, orioles, crows and the solitary purple heron soaring across the sky. At the entrance to the wetland, there is a pond with beautiful water lilies and plentiful dragonflies. There are also butterflies that we don't see in other parks playing hide-and-seek with us amongst the clumps of wild grass dotting the granite-covered area next to the lily pond. The Serangoon river was a surprise sight because I never expected to see a river of that size in Singapore. It felt like I was in some rural part of Malaysia and the feeling was nice. Our city was far away it seemed. If we had wanted to we could have also walked along the park connector in the opposite direction of the sea and along the Punggol Waterway. This may seem a little complicated. Still, if you want to enjoy some lovely space and rural charm, this is the place to go to.
