Admiralty Park on National Day

Far away from my home in the northern part of Singapore is an expansive park that is laid out like how the outskirts of Singapore must have looked like in the fifties when people lived in kampongs and had to walk or cycle miles to get to school or to town. Unlike us, they had open grassland, swamps, rivers, forests and lived closer to nature than the likes of us who get around everywhere by car, bus or train to and from our concrete houses and offices. True, life was hard then but those were times when people did not get their energy and life sapped out in the bid to get a better life. Ironies.
There were many carpenter bees buzzing around the pond near the entrance to the park.
One of the many lovely water-lilies on the pond.

Ferns are always fascinating to me.
A dragonfly catching the wind perched on a reed.

Of all the insects I have come across, dragonflies are real posers.
If you like ice-kachang and attap-chee, know that this is how the fruit looks like in the casing.
Singapore Rhododendron.
Young and filled with hope.
Natural bird seeds.
A shy bulbul that was not easy to capture with a camera.
Flowers of the Flame of the Forest.

The common flowers of the Dillenia Suffruticosa.

Tightrope performer.

Another common ginger specie, the crepe ginger flower.

Monkey with a moustache.

Fruits of the Barringtonia racemosa.

Carpenter bees in action.

Pond life.

A sunbird flitting amongst the fruit trees.

It was a hot day despite the huge clouds in the sky.                                                                       Fortunately it did not rain on the National Day Parade later in the evening.

Photos from this point on are in a random order. You will get a feel of what Admiralty Park is about nevertheless.
